This beautiful town knows how to keep intact its valuable past and its cultural richness. It is considered the first human settling and the oldest population of what today is known as Tamaulipas.
The historical downtown keeps beautiful and typical houses with balconies embellished with antique ironwork as well as interesting constructions unveiling traces of the early XIX century bonanza. It was a cultural and aristocratic town, witness of the cultural mix that occurred in Mexico.
Tula preserves its commerce with excellent saddlery and pottery works, including products from ixtle. The most emblematic work is the “Tulteca leather” or “Tamaulipas leather”, considered the traditional garment since 1960.
Festivities in honor of “Señor de Amparo”
May 3rd is Veneration to the Lord of the Shelter on the Angustias chapel, along with popular dance, pastorela representations, and traditional dance spectacles (on foot and on a horse).
San Isidro Festivity
May 15th is a celebration that passes through every house, starting the night before on the 14th, and concluding the 16th. It includes a dance performed by both infantry and cavalry with music played with violin and guitars.
Easter in El Contadero (Tula-Ocampo)
This sanctuary is located between the municipal limits of Tula and Ocampo. It is a small cave where the image of Guadalupe is engraved. It is worshiped with/through chanting and litanies by highland pilgrims coming from the Huasteca region in San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas. The sanctuary is located at the foothill and a small provisional town is established around Agua de Callejones.
San Antonio Festivity
June 13th is a festivity that dates to the early XVII century and it consists in revering the town’s patron saint in a walk throughout its streets.
The Virgen del Carmen Festivity
July 17th is an extremely popular celebration in San Luis Potosí that transcended to southeast Tamaulipas.
Pastorela Representations in Santa Ana de Naola
December 24th and 25th are days of representation of Pastorelas in Santa Ana de Naola, where every two years the birth of Jesus is celebrated.
