Strengthening the work agenda between the authorities of the Government of Tamaulipas and representatives of the US Consulate General of Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo, the fourth bi-national meeting was held virtually, promoting a permanent dialogue between both organizations.
US Consul General of Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo, Yolanda A. Parra and Deanne Kim participated in the first meeting of 2021.
During the meeting, Fernando Olivera Rocha, State Secretary of Tourism, highlighted the importance of this unique forum as it allows regular exchanges of a wide range of issues, such as the actions and programs implemented by Governor Francisco García Cabeza in matters of security, tourism, and economic development.
In the tourism field, Olivera Rocha explained the impact the local industry has faced with the Covid-19 pandemic and shared the different initiatives and biosafety projects developed, along with the support of the business sector, in promoting Tamaulipas as a clean and safe destination, the results obtained from a gradual reopening of beach and nature destinations, as well as the protocols implemented to take care of visitors with the program “SaniTam Pro” and the success of the “Buy Tam” app, that has over 48 thousand downloads since its launch.
Joseph Giblin, Political/Economic Officer at the US Consulate in Matamoros, Carlos Garcia, from the State Economic Development Office, Jose Rafael Rivas Valdes, from the local Public Security Office and Enrique Feregrino Taboada from the local Justice Department also participated in the bi-national meeting.
